This spectacular garden in the east Algarve is the work of architect Margaret Jackson and manages to blend from a more typical mediterranean scene in the background – stone pines, cypress and olive trees – to something altogether more exotic in the foreground. The gravel mulch gave the garden a finished look from the beginning, and little or no water is required to maintain these species once established. Full of structure, colour and texture, the garden looks great throughout the year, while the owner’s personal touches – found objects, pots and plants perfectly mixed-and-matched – really sing.
